A Park with a Heart

The Friends of the Hollywood Central Park is busy and excited about our progress in 2020! This year, FHCP is embarking on several major milestones regarding funding and permitting. We continue to work with the City of Los Angeles and Caltrans to make headway towards achieving our goal of having our project approved.

As a board and stewards of this amazing project, our goal is very simple: create a public park for all ages in the heart of Hollywood. We all know the amazing economic and health benefits that come with green space. In the largest study of its type, researchers in Demark found in 2019 that exposure to green space during childhood significantly reduces the risk of developing a mental illness during adolescence and adulthood.  We also know that parks and green space are associated with lower stress, blood pressure and heart rate. There is no doubt that the Park will be a major contributor to the health and well-being of residents in the City of Los Angeles. We are building a green, beautiful park that will keep Hollywood and the City growing for generations to come. It is a park that will keep the heart of Hollywood and Los Angeles pumping. The fact that Hollywood is one of the most park poor neighborhoods in the state only reinforces our belief that the Park will not only make a difference, it will improve lives.

As the Chair of the Board, I am thrilled to serve with my fellow directors who are just as dedicated and passionate as I am about our efforts. We all approach the work involved from different professions and experiences but we have a common goal to walk the park with our children and other Angelenos in the near future. I want to thank them for the ongoing commitment and support. I often say that the Park is a project by the community for the community and this feeling is palpable at every Park meeting and community event. The Park project represents the bold and innovative spirit that makes Hollywood one of the most unique places in the world.
